Do you know Yoshida Youichi ?
He was professor of mathematics and also published some books. 
In ''method of my reading'', he wrote ''if you can not understand content of books you read, the cause is not always in the book, but real cause is in how mature you are. In such case, there have no choice but to wait for the day when they grow up intellectually. I think that many people have a experience of realizing later how interesting a book I read before is.''
In short, to understand what you read, you need to work brain, increase knowledge, and have attitude of not giving up reading books  even if what you read is hard to understand.
